Dr. Krishna Lal Baishnab, Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering (on lien), joined as the Principal of Barak Valley Engineering College on 29 May 2026. He obtained his B.Tech degree from Regional Engineering College (now National Institute of Technology), Silchar, followed by M.Tech and Ph.D. degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and the National Institute of Technology Silchar, respectively.
Dr. Baishnab has an illustrious academic and administrative career spanning over 28 years at NIT Silchar, where he served in various key capacities. He also held the position of Registrar (in-charge) for nearly two years, contributing significantly to institutional governance and development.
A dedicated researcher and academician, Dr. Baishnab has been actively involved in research and development, leading several sponsored R&D projects and contributing to technological advancements in the field of VLSI and semiconductor design. He has an impressive publication record, with over 150 research papers in reputed SCI journals and international conferences.
Under his leadership, a VLSI chip was successfully designed and fabricated as part of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. This significant achievement received national recognition, and the chip was unveiled by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India at the prestigious SEMICON-2025 summit organized by the Government of India.
Dr. Baishnab has also made remarkable contributions to human resource development in academia. Under his supervision, 15 Ph.D. scholars have successfully completed their doctoral degrees, reflecting his commitment to nurturing research talent and academic excellence.
With his rich experience, visionary leadership, and strong research background, Dr. Baishnab continues to contribute towards advancing technical education and innovation.
